Pass. Set. Spike. Score! Whether you play beach or indoor volleyball, the game is exciting and action-packed, getting your heart pumping (even as a spectator!).
While it’s a fun game and a great way to stay active, the truth is that any sport has the potential to lead to injuries. As a sports physio in Canberra, we work with volleyball players of all ages and abilities in an effort to help them recover and get back on the court.
At Powerhouse Canberra, we’re partners with Volleyball ACT and are proud to be known as a trusted sports physio for volleyball athletes in Canberra and across the ACT region. With extensive knowledge of volleyball’s unique physical demands, we’re not just your physio, but part of your performance team.

Your Overview
of Sports Physiotherapy
Sports physiotherapy aims to address a wide range of sports injuries, including:
- Sprains
- Strains
- Tears
- Overuse injuries
- Fractures
- Dislocations
- And more
It is designed to support athletes through focusing on preventing, addressing, and managing injuries sustained through any type of sport, whether that’s running, football, or volleyball.
As well as prevention and rehabilitation, sports physiotherapists are as invested in your return to sport as you are. The aim is to see you return to your sport as quickly and safely as possible, and to provide you with knowledge that may help prevent re-injury.
Another key component of sports physiotherapy is performance enhancement. No matter your sport of choice, you aim to improve with every game, every session, and every run, and sports physios want that for you too! With this in mind, we strive to help you perform at your best by working with you on techniques designed to improve flexibility, strength, coordination, and more. We do an Athletes academy in the gym specifically for volleyballers aged 13-18 to get them stronger and prepare for the demands of high level sport. This class targets everything an aspiring volleyballer needs and we run them twice weekly.

Volleyball Physio
at Powerhouse Canberra
With the explosive jumping, hitting, and rapid directional changes that volleyball requires, the game tends to put a lot of stress on the body. As such, our sports physiotherapists frequently work with volleyball players in an effort to help them recover well and get back to attacking, assisting, and acing shots.
We ensure Volleyball ACT athletes receive priority appointments and exclusive team rates. By supporting Volleyball ACT athletes from junior development players to elite representatives, our mission is to help players move better, perform stronger, and play longer.

Your Volleyball Physio
Questions Answered
Ideally, the best time to see a sports physiotherapist is before you acquire an injury, as prevention is always better than cure. However, we realise this can be a bit like putting the cart before the horse! If you have a sports injury, you should book an appointment with a sports physio as soon as possible. This allows your physio to address your injury sooner, which may assist in streamlining your recovery and getting you back in the game.
Every injury is different, and every treatment plan is different as well. Depending on what your injury is, how you sustained it, and how severe it is, your sports physiotherapist will work with you to create a personalised treatment plan. This may include:
- Manual therapy
- Massage
- Dry needling
- Acupuncture
- Exercise prescription
- Education
- Rehabilitation
